beginners / intermediate courses

12 week courses

People of all abilities are welcome to join! Although these courses are aimed at developing beginner’s skills, we will tailor to everyone’s capabilities. These sessions are held in the class area of The Kiln Rooms, where we like to create a comfortable, fun environment.

Over the first 4-5 weeks everyone covers basic techniques such as throwing on the wheel, hand building, mould work, decorating and glazing. After this, you are encouraged to develop your own projects and ideas with the support of the teacher and others on the course.

Courses take place in one of our 4 studios Peckham Levels / Copeland Park / Bellenden Road / Farringdon, this will be confirmed when booking.

Morning courses take place 10am-1pm and evening courses are either 6pm-9pm, 6:30pm-9:30pm, 6:45pm-9:45pm or 7pm-10pm. Monday classes do go ahead on Bank holidays.

Please make sure that you can attend as many of the classes over a 12 week course as possible. In the event of non-attendance or arriving late to classes it is not possible to provide alternative studio time, or for a class to be rescheduled as our courses sell out.  

We have a waiting list for evening courses (email courses@thekilnroom.com to join this), but often have spaces available on weekday morning courses.

The cost of a 12 week course at one of our Peckham studios is £370. At Farringdon, the courses cost £390.

This doesn’t include the cost of materials, which is £5 per 1kg of fired pot (e.g. a teacup is around £1). We also have porcelain/crank/black clay available, these clays cost £10 per 1kg of fired pot.

Introducing concession rates from January 2025! We’ll be offering a 20% discount for NHS staff, students, and over 65’s from January.  This will be applicable on any of our weekday morning 12 week courses in Farringdon, our Saturday 12 week courses in Peckham, & any of our 5 week taster courses!

Everyone enrolled in a 12 week course can book onto our ‘drop-in’ sessions. 

These sessions are designed to provide those on our courses the option of additional access, outside of class hours. Perfect for people who would like time to practice but who aren’t able to make the most of a full membership.
